Dieng CAS Project (C, S)
Around late September my school held a field trip to Dieng for our project. I teamed up with Bilal, Reza, Amber, Rissa, and Ratu for a CAS project. Before the trip, we brainstormed some ideas on what to do in Dieng. After some discussion, we agree that we should teach 6th graders in elementary school on how to make organic fertilizer. We discussed about which grade we should teach, the materials needed, role division, methods, and more. After making adequate preparation, we headed for Dieng. When we arrived in SD Negeri Dieng, we gathered 10 students outside for us to demonstrate our idea. We prepared the items and ingredients required and began to explain it to them step by step.
I identified multiple LO’s, the first one is identify own strengths and develop areas for growth. I find it quite hard communicating with my team and coordinating the students, but i managed to keep calm and work tirelessly in solving the issues, i improved my communications. My public speaking also needed more work, though i see some improvements compared to my last attempt.
Second LO is demonstrate and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively, it helped us to communicate better on solving a problem and it gives a lot of opinions on different point of view. Doing this activity was exhausting, fortunately we had a team to devise all of the work and lighten it, they were helpful and worked as a team.
Another one is demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience. We planned our CAS together while also sharing our knowledge between different topics, creating new ideas and collaborated from teaching, demonstrating our idea to the students, documenting, and coordinating all of the students.
My last LO is demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance, one of our reasons on picking this topic is that the environmental impact it creates when using organic fertilizers compared to chemical fertilizers. Not only it reduces waste and pollution, but it also improves soil health and support long-term sustainability. All of these benefits will create a better impact to the world, reducing gas emissions and waste pollution.
I learned a lot from this experience, including my team on our own LO on this field trip. This trip gave us an opportunity to reflect on our strengths and weaknesses and further develop those skills in the future. From public speaking to communication, this lesson will be helpful for me and our own journey.
